Control, Reviews & Meetings
  • Control construction to comply with drawings, specifications, and contract.
  • Review material submittals and comparison lists from the contractor.
  • Review contractor’s shop drawings.
  • Review as‑built drawings prepared from actual work.
  • Recommend, advise, adjust, or change construction methods for smooth progress.
  • Hold regular meetings with the contractor/owner/consultant (at least weekly) to track progress and issues.
  • Review schedules and inspect progress, including acceleration when needed to meet plan.
  • Check progress payment applications to ensure they reflect actual completed work and results achieved.
Issue resolution and site logistics
Issue Resolution & Site Administration
  • Solve specific construction‑stage problems (e.g., drawing conflicts) by coordinating stakeholders for efficient solutions.
  • Ensure site operations comply with drawings and contract without obstructing work or causing loss to the owner.
  • Order work stoppage when continuing may cause damage, and report to the owner.
  • Inspect work and materials per approved standards.
  • Reject work not meeting specified standards.
  • Provide clear corrective directions; propose fair solutions accepted by all parties.
  • Check temporary works and contractor’s execution methods and manpower plans.
  • Assist on‑site technical problem solving.
Cost control and handover
Cost, Coordination & Handover
  • Manage coordination with relevant agencies as necessary.
  • Evaluate price changes (if any).
  • Prepare and monitor cash‑flow for construction to inform the owner’s budget management.
  • Coordinate procurement to support continuous work.
  • Coordinate between owner and contractor to ensure smooth operations.
  • Verify and confirm documents for contractor’s requests to extend time (if any) with complete substantiation.
  • Supervise building systems testing and commissioning to ensure operability for the owner prior to handover.
  • Perform final inspections and document compilation for handover (as‑built drawings, manuals, contact list for equipment suppliers, etc.) before final delivery.

  • Translate the owner’s policy into practice.
  • Define construction management policy with the owner.
  • Identify issues or critical risks affecting project execution.
  • Inspect works inside and outside the project.
  • Manage construction progress and site operations to meet plan and budget.
  • Plan and control construction materials and equipment procurement by category.
  • Set methods for construction supervision.
  • Lead site coordination meetings; ensure clarity with stakeholders.
  • Check costs and evaluate progress for reporting.
  • Control construction quality to meet standards and methods.
  • Approve necessary design/method changes with impact review on time, cost, safety, and quality.
  • Approve materials and equipment after quality and price assessment.
  • Ensure payments are not made for defective or incomplete work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the owner.

Project Roles — Field Engineer / Technician

On‑site technical duties

Field Engineer
Responsibilities
  • Study and clarify drawings/specifications to ensure the works proceed correctly; check for conflicts and foresee site issues to keep work uninterrupted.
  • Ensure works comply with contract and detailed specifications.
  • Control and inspect the contractor’s daily on‑site operations for proper practice and workmanship.
  • Review shop drawings and actual as‑built drawings.
  • Check material samples and catalogues against drawings/specs and approved lists.
  • Witness tests and inspections of materials/equipment; ensure correct models and details are used.
  • Order a temporary stop when continuing could cause damage or danger; report to the Project Manager for remedy.
  • Verify progress for payment and confirm measured quantities with the owner’s representative.
  • Monitor that the contractor keeps the site safe and orderly; support the PM on incident investigation as needed.
  • Inspect and record manpower, labor counts, key equipment, and tools the contractor uses on site.
  • Prepare site memos/inspection notes and submit to the Project Manager.
  • Carry out other tasks as assigned.
